Career Change Consultation Certification Update
Apparently last week was a big vacation week. I know because
when I came into work yesterday morning there were a pile of
messages from people who just got my email about the Outside the
Job Box Certification Program survey and were upset because they
missed the deadline.
I know what it’s like trying to catch up after being out for a
week. So, to give everybody a chance to complete the
Certification Survey, I’ve extended the deadline to this Sunday,
July 29th.

I know a lot of you are chomping at the bit to get into this
program. But I want to make sure that when I do answer all of
your frequently asked questions that I haven’t missed anything
really important. So I’m going to wait another week to get all
the surveys back.
But there is one really important thing that came up in the
survey that I need to clarify right away….
Someone wanted to know if the Certification would cover
executive career counseling and salary negotiation. The answer?
Absolutely not!
This Certification Program is 100 percent focused on training
you on how to help your clients figure out how to identify the
things they love to do and then how these gifts and interests
can be used to make a living WITHOUT A J-O-B.
The very thing that will distinguishe you as a potential Outside
the Job Box Career Consultant from the 99.9% of career
counselors or life coaches is that you will be working
EXCLUSIVELY with people who are actively looking to escape the
9-to-5 (or more likely 8-to-late) world.
In fact, when a prospective client calls me, the very first
thing I tell them is (and these are my exact words), “You need
to know that what I do is not for everyone.” (FYI, as part of
the Certification you’ll be getting all of my “scripts” so you
know exactly what to say when a prospective client calls.)
I would say 1 out of every 100 callers take me up on my offer to
refer them to a traditional career coach. The other 99 percent
are thrilled to know that someone actually “gets” that they want
to love their work AND their life.
If you are looking to become a traditional career counselor with
an emphasis on how to write that winning resume or how to nail
the job interview… this is not the right program for you.
From the surveys received to date, it looks like the vast
majority of you know exactly what I’m talking about. Based on
the answers to the survey question: “Why do you think you would
make a good Outside the Job Box Consultant?” it looks like a lot
of people have a natural gift for thinking creatively and a
genuine passion for helping….
One person said:
“I get excited when brainstorming opportunities. The ideas and
passion that come through is contagious. Plus I have been there,
still there actually, going through the Fast Track goodies I
just got. It has resonated from the beginning and with this
sense of frustration I have felt for years, finally making sense
and progress puts me in a position to empathize and understand
where a client is coming from. One of my gifts is encouragement
and helping others help themselves. Another gift is creativity
and the ability to dream big. Now I want to pursue my big dreams
and would like to help others pursue their own.”
Others wrote:
“In all the dreams I’ve had since childhood, everything I’ve
ever loved has been outside of the job prison. I admit I never
achieved success independently, mainly because I could never
figure out how to ‘break in’ to something independent — until
now.”
“I love helping people to discover their passions. I think that
we are all here to help each other grow, some of us are better
at watering than weeding and I am looking for the tools to be
able to do both more effectively.”
“I truly believe that if you can dream it you can do it. I think
we’re all born with innate gifts. I think it’s a shame that so
many of us go our whole lives without sharing our gifts with the
world at large.”
“I’m intuitive, creative, have a strong business sense, great
listener, and always interested in motivating and helping people
succeed.”
And in the “most succinct answer” category:
“Because I am naturally built and think that way.”
A lot of people have already been doing this kind of work… they
just haven’t been getting paid for it…
“I already help people by giving them the info they are looking
for or by telling how to get it. Helping them will fulfill my
dream of owing my own business and helping people to live their
dream.”
“I seem to give other people like friends intuitively the right
hints for their ways and even tell them what to do and for which
companies to work for and it always comes out right for them.”
“Last week, I flipped a personal phone call with a dear friend
into a coach session. She said, ‘Wow, you should do this for a
living.’”
And winner of the most unique answer is…
“Because I am living outside the Job box as it is. I quit
working in the field of criminal law in 2003 when I realized
that I would be stopping by the side of the road to vomit every
morning if I continued to work in that field.”
I can see the headline now: Sign up for the 2007 Outside the Job
Box Certification Program and Never Vomit on Your Way to Work
Again!
Talk about your benefit!
There is still time to tell me why you would make a good Outside
the Job Box Consultant. And more importantly to let me know what
you want to make sure is included in the Certification.
But you must complete the survey by Sunday, July 29th. Here is

I’ll be in touch next week to answer all of your most frequently
asked questions.

P.S. I almost forgot… one person asked if I would cancel the
Certification if not enough people sign up. I can’t remember if
I mentioned this before or not, but four people already plunked
down a deposit last fall to hold their place.
Plus, when asked the question, “How interested are you in this
training program?” 77.8 percent of the survey respondents
indicated that they are “Very Interested.”
Bottom line – I guarantee the Fall 2007 Certification is a go.
The program begins on Tuesday, September 11, 2007.
